Mendham Minutemen girls soccer defeat Milburn Millers in playoffs

MENDHAM, N.J. — The Mendham Minutemen girls soccer team defeated the Milburn Millers in the state playoffs. The Minutemen were ranked the seventh seed going into the playoffs while their opposition was ranked tenth.

The Minutemen dominated for the majority of the game, as they seemed to be more “hungry” than Milburn. Juniors Lucy Chomiak and Abigail Fitzsimmons carried the majority of the weight in this game. They both racked in a goal and Fitzsimmons also had an assist to lead Mendham to their 2-0 victory.

The Minutemen’s goalie, Sonja Zeepvat, has been phenomenal throughout the season and she only continues to show her greatness. Zeepvat made ten saves to earn yet another shutout, adding to the reason she was nominated for the Goalie of the Year award. Milburn’s season came to end after this dominating loss to Mendham, and they fell to 6-9-2 for the year.

The Minutemen advance to the next round where they will face the second-seeded Chatham Cougars in the quarterfinals later this week.
