HUTTO, Texas — It isn’t often that people in Texas see girls playing with the boys on football teams. But Hutto Middle School has a girl on the team in Isabella Michael. She was the only girl on the team for a while. Her role on the team was mainly for running, even with many wondering if a girl could compete with the boys in football.

Many of those doubts that people had about whether Michael could compete in football were put to rest soon after she started playing. Michael scored a touchdown for the team in Hutto this past fall. She became the first girl to score a touchdown in her athletic district.

She was very proficient during a recent game, as she had kickoff returns of 50 and 70 yards in length. Her performance was outstanding and showed that she is one of the most interesting people to watch in the sport of football in Hutto.

What makes this touchdown impressive is that the 2021 year is Michael’s first year of playing football. Her mother, Mayra Toro, was particularly proud of Michael’s performance on the gridiron, although she was originally surprised and concerned about how much Michael wanted to play football.

Toro was worried about her daughter’s desire to play football, what with football being a highly physical sport. But she felt more confident as she saw her daughter run into the end zone, as she knew playing football is something she wants to do. Michael has particularly received support from the teammates, coaches and many others. The entire team ran into the end zone after she scored her touchdown to celebrate her work.

Her football performance is one small part of what makes Michael such a special kid. She is also an honor student at Hutto Middle School. She is a student ambassador who welcomes new students when they enter the school. The teachers particularly like how she is very active as a leader in school. She is always ahead of the game and is willing to help other people.

There’s no telling what Michael will be doing next as she continues to compete in football. Michael says that she wants to keep on playing football as long as she can. She feels that if she is capable of staying agile and fast, she could continue to play into high school. Her desire to play and compete has made her a special person to watch for in local football.
