Glenview Jr. Titans win TCYFL 2A Championship as first-year league members

GLENVIEW, Ill. — Yesterday, on the coldest day we’ve had since last winter, the Glenview Jr. Titans beat the Prairie Ridge Wolves of Crystal Lake in an epic match up to win the TCYFL 2A Championship. The final score, 46-40.

This was the Titans first year in the TCYFL (The Chicagoland Youth Football League), having played for many years in the Central Suburban Youth Football League. Player enrollment had been down in recent years, even prior to covid, but coaches were thrilled to learn the new program, The Chicagoland Youth Football League, had drawn over 140 3rd to 8th graders to sign up for the 2021 fall season.

This year’s varsity team was made up of 22 players and their season opener was against last year’s Super Bowl champs, the Libertyville Wildcats.  The Titans suffered a loss that day and again the following week against another powerhouse, the Grant Bulldogs.  Starting the season 0-2 was not what the coaching staff was expecting and they quickly regrouped, practiced hard and got their first win week three!  The team continued to improve as the rest of their 12 game season continued, earning them the #1 seed in the playoffs and a bye in the first round. The Titans were matched up against the talented Barrington Broncos in round two and beat them 28-13 to advance to the finals.

The championship game was on November 14, and the Titans beat Prairie Ridge in a ‘barn burner’ with a score of 46-40.  The game was so entertaining to watch that the TCYFL president, in a post game address to both teams, said he’s “never seen a more exciting game” at this level.

The Titans were coached by head coach Bill Nestos, Chris Tomsheck, Brian Faut, Frank Torres, Dave Dooman & Mike Carter.

The Glenview Jr. Titans are honored and excited to now be a part of the TCYFL and feel very strongly “it will only make our coaches and players better,” according to Nestos.

He went on to say that the league has a high level of competitiveness and is very well organized.  Winning the championship in their first year “made the victory extra special” and the team looks forward to competing with the league’s first-rate teams for years to come.
