Cody Deneut: Striving for greatness in Bay City

BAY CITY, Mich. — Cody Deneut is a hockey player who plays for the Bay City Central High School Wolves. Deneut is one of the Wolves who has brought pride to the team’s purple and gold jersey.

His high school, Bay City, was established almost 100 years ago (1922), and the game of ice hockey is one sport that has brought it honor and pride.

Deneut was born in 2014 in Bay City, Michigan. He is 17 years old and started playing hockey with the Wolves in the 2018-19 season. Unfortunately, that season was a disaster. The Wolves played 23 games in the United States High School Hockey League but could only win one game. They lost their remaining 22 games. When the season came to an end, they had two total points and came second to last, just a little above Lapeer High, who came last with no points at all.

This result reflected poorly on Deneut who played as a forward for the Wolves. Other players on the team were also unhappy with the way the season turned out. For Deneut, he played seven games for the Wolves and could not record a goal or an assist in the season. This was the same for almost all players of the Bay City Wolves. None of the players made the regular season player statistics of the 100 players listed that season.

In the 2020-21 season, Deneut showed that he has what it takes to be the next big star for his high school. In just 15 games for the Wolves, he scored six goals and provided eight assists. He was ranked 2nd in the 2020-21 skater statistics, and only Elijah Jaime had more total points than him in that season.

The Wolves lost 8-1 in a game against Saginaw Heritage. Deneut scored the only goal in the game.

In a game against Alpena High School that ended 8-5 in favor of the Bay City Wolves, Deneut was one of the players that played a significant role in helping the Wolves secure that win. He scored a hat trick for the team.

Deneut is currently the Wolves’ second all-time point earner (14) after just 22 games, the third all-time goal scorer (6), second in all-time assists (8) and all-time points per game (0.636). His sportsmanship will be talked about long after he moves on from the Bay City Wolves.
