Sophomore QB Tyler Bush finishes season strong for Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — After senior quarterback Giovani Laurent transitioned to wide receiver, sophomore quarterback Tyler Bush got his chance to shine for the Michigan City varsity football team.

Once the change was made, the Wolves went on a seven-game win streak that ultimately ended in a loss in the 5A Semi-State Championship game against a competitive Zionsville team.

The move paid off immediately, with Bush playing out of his mind against Crown Point, completing 19 of 22 passes while throwing four touchdowns and 381 yards through the air.

Bush would get the offense rolling early on in the game, throwing 80 yards on three of three passes to begin the game, which included a 2-yard touchdown pass to running back Raci’on Anderson.

However, Bush’s biggest play in the game was a 44-yard touchdown strike to Laurent down the sidelines on a 4th and 4 with only 7:39 remaining in the third quarter. This play essentially sealed the game for the Wolves, proving that Bush has incredible decision-making abilities at the quarterback position.

Bush was the star of the game thanks to several crucial plays that kept the Wolves alive down the stretch.

Many believe that Bush is now the quarterback of the future for Michigan City because of his incredible football acumen and physical gifts.

The sophomore quarterback would go on to deliver several stellar performances against tough northwestern Indiana opponents. The Wolves ultimately finished the season with nine wins and a record of 4-3 in league play, which was good enough for fifth place out of eight teams.

Bush was also the starting quarterback for the Wolves in a Class 5A Semi-State Championship game against the Zionsville Eagles, and it would prove to be a tough challenge for Michigan City.

With a seven-game win streak on the line, Bush had plenty of confidence entering the game against the Eagles. However, Zionsville brought their A-game.

The Eagles were in control of the game from beginning to end, dominating Michigan City by a final score of 52-21. Despite a blowout loss by the Wolves, Bush still made several big plays and never backed down throughout the entire contest.

Bush finished the game with multiple passing touchdowns, which included a 77-yard strike to senior running back Omarion Hatch.

Although Zionsville crushed Michigan City’s hopes of playing in a state championship game, fans can rejoice in the fact that Bush has incredible star quarterback potential.

The future is now in Michigan City.
