Ronnie Roberts hopes to be the leader of the Springstead Eagles

SPRING HILL, Fla. — The winter season is still young, but expectations around the Springstead Eagles are high. Last year, one of the team’s figures was Unique Torain, one of the team’s leaders over four seasons. In his senior year, he averaged 15.4 points per game, 3.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds, which placed him as one of the best players in the organization. The Eagles finished with a 19-5 record overall, including an impressive 13-1 record in the conference.

For the current season, the team no longer has Torain, so another player needs to take the role of leader. This is where Ronnie Roberts appears on the map, a player in his senior year and maybe the essential man for Coach Matt McGarry, who, after the 2020-21 campaign, was named GC8 Conference Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.

Roberts plays as a center for the Springstead Eagles and he is in his second season with the team. Everything indicates that he will improve the numbers of the previous year, where he played 20 games and averaged only 3.8 points, a total of 76 throughout the campaign. Taking those stats into account, Roberts’ potential looks promising due to his early performances this season.

In the first five appearances of the current season, Roberts was key to the Springstead Eagles’ five victories, showing that he can be the leader the team requires for the upcoming challenges. Roberts started December averaging 10 points and six rebounds per game. In total, the center registered 50 points, something that is exciting in Spring Hill, as winter is just underway, and the players must start in the best possible way.

The excellent news for Roberts is that he will have talented teammates to pursue the team’s best performance. Gavin Korth-Loder plays as a forward, while Saquan Carswell does it as a guard. They both have lots of things in common. The two are contesting their fourth season with the program. Being in their senior year, they are essential to the aspirations of the Springstead Eagles, which is why they will want to give everything to leave their mark on the organization.

In the upcoming months, we’ll see if the Springstead Eagles, led by Roberts, can meet the targets set at the start of winter. The five victories at the beginning of the season suggest that it could be a good year. For this, Coach McGarry will have to manage the squad so that each one offers the best of themselves and their talents.
