Fall River Dragons to carve out talented junior players in Nova Scotia

FALL RIVER, Nova Scotia (BVM) — Inborn talents are not enough to become a good player for any kind of sports item, especially in football. Skill development programs and an advanced level of training are also a significant part of carving out more talented players.

Fall River Dragons, a popular junior-level football team associated with the Fall River Minor Football Association, was founded in 2004 to train kids from different areas of Nova Scotia including Fall River, East Hants, Waverley, Windsor Junction, and Beaver Bank Area.

The Fall River Dragons haVE four separate divisions or squads: Bantam Dragons, PeeWee Dragons, Atom Dragons, and Mites Dragons.

Bantam Dragons

The Bantam division of the Fall River Dragons is one of the most competitive and advanced teams in the Nova Scotia Youth Tackle League. It helps kids normally in the age group of 13 and 14 to learn all the basics of football within a short period of time. Bantam squad follows the Canadian basic rules of football such as a team of 12 members and the field of 110 yards x 65 yards and 20-yard end zone.

Bantam provides three days of training for kids every week. The training program helps kids to qualify for the most competitive high-school-level football competitions. The registration requires a small amount of fee (300 CAD), birth certificate and a photo.

PeeWee Dragons

PeeWee division is the intermediate-level football program of the Fall River Divisions. It is designed mainly for kids in the age group of 11 and 12 and normally comes under the grades of six and seven. The players will get the opportunity to play provincial and regional championship games along with some playoffs at the end of the training season. Like Bantam, PeeWee Dragons follows the basic rule of Canadian football. The registration fee to the PeeWee Dragons’ training program is 275 CAD and birth certificate as proof of age and a headshot.

Atom Division

The Fall River Dragons’ Atom squad focuses the kids on the age group of nine and 10. As an entry-level division, the Atom squad explains the fundamentals of football including strategy and language with fun activities. It follows the Canadian football rules with nine team members per side and the modified field of 110 yards x 41 yards with a 20-yard end zone. Like all other divisions, the Atom squad has scheduled three days of training per week and the season ends with playoff games and a championship. The registration requirements for the Atom division are the same as for the PeeWee division.

Mites Division

Mites division is mainly focusing on the age group between six and eight. In this division, kids will get trained with the basics of football including catching, throwing, blocking techniques along with proper warm-up. Mites squad focuses on building confidence, and health, and well-being among the kids. The division also trying to carve out more balanced players with skills such as co-operation, self-esteem, and self-discipline. There are no specific rules for this division, however, it follows a team of six members, short time games, and smaller fields. The registration fee for the season is 200 CAD and all other criteria remain the same.

The season for all the divisions starts in August and ends in November with playoff games and championships. There are mainly two coaches for Fall River Dragons: an offensive coordinator Matt Avery and a defensive coordinator Aidan Sherwood.
