Hawks sign two players

BOISE, Idaho (BVM) – The Boise Hawks announced on Dec. 10t the returning Idaho native, Zach Penrod and Sean Skelly, a catcher that can produce on the dish.

Zach Penrod is looking to tally up K’s for the Hawks next season. The 6-foot-2 lefty previously played for Corban University and Northwest Nazarene University before signing with the Texas Rangers in 2019. Although things didn’t work out with Penrod and the Rangers, the left-handed pitcher returned home to Idaho and struckout 85 batters over 68.1 innings for the Hawks.

Penrod had his most notable starts in his first two appearances. Over those games, Penrod threw over 12 innings, striking out 24 opposing hitters. If Penrod can work on being more consistent and have himself more outings like that, he can possibly see himself back signing with an MLB organization.

In more exciting news in Boise Baseball, the Hawks also confirm their catcher from last season will be returning in Sean Skelly. The 6-foot solid backstop was a key asset for the Hawks last season. He batted .316 with an OBP of .453 and slugged .519. The Mission Viejo native played for Cal State Northridge before signing with Boise. Skelly earned himself a spot on the 2019 All-Big West Conference Second Team and was named CSUN’s Male Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In only 26 games with the Hawks, Skelly went on a tear with 22 hits and 15 RBIs. Skelly looks to keep coming up in the clutch for the Hawks in the anticipated 2022 upcoming season.

The Hawks, along with the help of Coach Gary Van Tol and General Manager Mike Van Hise will keep constructing their roster for the next PBL campaign. It’s sure to be an exciting 2022 season.
