Thunderbowl Raceway announces its 2022 schedule

TULARE, Calif. — Auto racing fans in Tulare will have plenty of things to look forward to in the coming year, as the Thunderbowl Raceway has announced its full list of 2022 events at the dirt track. The raceway will begin its 2022 season on March 4 with the USAC/CRA Wingless 410 Sprint cars event.

The raceway will host a few combination events alongside Keller Auto Speedway in the nearby town of Hanford.

“It really is great for racing in the Central Valley,” promoter Steve Fario said to Speed Sport. “We have six combination weekends where Tulare and Hanford will each run on separate nights.”

Hanford and Tulare are about 25 miles apart. Faria says that he and Keller Auto Speedway chair Peter Murphy have been working to prepare many weekends where people from each town can travel to the other to enjoy a full weekend of racing action.

The third-mile clay oval track is one of the most popular sites for dirt racing in California. The global pandemic has forced the cancellation of many events in the past two seasons, including some World of Outlaws competitions. But that dirt track group and many others will be making their triumphant return to Tulare in 2022, as there are fifteen events on the schedule.

The World of Outlaws will be returning to the Thunderbowl on March 11-12. The World of Outlaws is one of the world’s top dirt track car series.

The Kings of Thunder Winged 360 Sprint Car series will also appear in Tulare on April 8 and 30. The Kris Mancebo Memorial will occur on May 4-5 and will feature IMCA modifieds, sport mods and stock cars racing on the dirt track.

The Thunderbowl is excited to host a new event this year in the Dennis Roth Classic. The event will be held on Oct. 15. The NARC 410 Sprint Cars group will have a race during the Classic. The race gives $8,300 to the winner, and it also costs $830 for an entry.

The calendar ends with the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup 28 on Oct. 20-22. The event will feature Winged 360 Sprint Cars, vehicles that feature wings that produce downforce and also include 360-cubic-inch engines. The weekend competition will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Each event at the Thunderbowl will feature hot laps and time trials leading up to when the racing starts. Tickets for grandstand and bleacher seats for all events are available, with kids ages six to 12 paying half price.
