Danville Little League looks back, prepares for 50th year anniversary season ahead

DANVILLE, Calif. — Danville Little League looks back at an All Star filled summer and prepares for a successful season ahead which will mark its 50-year anniversary.

Games at Osage Park will be here before you know it and Danville Little League is proud to host the game of baseball for youth in Danville. Last year, the League had a registration of over 600 youth, ranging in ages 5 to 16 years old. Despite the uncertainty of COVID, DLL ran a normal regular season, capped off with playoffs and the following teams winning a Division trophy (Majors: Cardinals, AAA: Padres, AA: Brewers, A: Sullivan – Athletics).

Summer brought even more highs for the Danville Little League organization and its surrounding community. The League competed in All Star tournaments around Northern California and staffed 5 All-Star teams and 3 District All Star teams.

A major headline from the summer was our 11-year District All Star team who took NorCal by storm. A close group of boys who had been playing sports together for several years worked tirelessly practicing 5 to 6 times a week preparing for the All-Star season ahead. Their dedication proved successful as they won the District 57 Championship in a hard-fought battle versus Granada in late June 2021 and qualified to compete in the Northern California Sectionals. This team coached by Corey Fitzgibbon, Mike Jones and Troy Croghan was motivated to win and with great pitching, consistent defense and powerful hitting at the plate, they continued their summer baseball journey by winning the Sectionals, held in Danville, versus a very talented San Mateo team.

Holding their Sectionals banner with pride, they redirected their focus to the final stop on their summer adventure; Northern California State Championships, where they would face teams from all over the state. Late July 2021 was spent commuting back and forth from Turlock where they faced Land Park (Sacramento), Los Gatos, and in the championship game Rincon Valley (Santa Rosa). On the evening of July 30th, the 11-year-old DLL District All Stars defeated Rincon Valley with a score of 7-2. Our All-Star team contributed 10 hits, threw 11 strike outs against Rincon players, and held them to only two hits which resulted in a win. Overall, the 11-year-old District All Stars posted a summer record 16-4!

Danville Little League can also tip their caps to the talented 12-year-old District All Stars who competed fearlessly throughout the early summer and walked away with a victory over Tassajara Valley for the District 57 title and banner.

In the upcoming season, our League looks forward to creating new baseball memories and developing the love of baseball in our local youth. We encourage the community to come out and watch local games, celebrate the 50th year anniversary and as always, would welcome corporate sponsors to help make our fields and programs even better.
