These two Fair Oaks locals have been dancing side by side for years

FAIR OAKS, Calif. — Fair Oaks locals Monica (21) and Megan (20) and their years of practice have paid off. Monica and Megan began their dance careers in Fair Oaks at Ovations Dance Studio. Over the years, the two have spent countless hours dancing on the same team performing in parades, competitions, and multiple recitals, finally landing themselves on their college dance teams.

Megan began dancing at age three and danced all the way until 18. She has continued her involvement with the studio as a teacher for the last three years. “I teach tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical two nights a week for ages 3-11,” Megan said. Her favorite part of being a teacher is her ability to share her passion for dance and getting to see how happy it makes her students. Outside of the studio, Megan is also a part of the Sacramento State Dance Team, where she can continue her passion and do what she loves. “What I love most about dancing is having a place where I can do something that makes me happy and gives me the freedom to express myself,” Megan said.

Monica has been dancing for the last 18 years. She first began at age three taking tap and ballet. She taught hip hop at Ovations for a few months from March to June, “it was a wonderful experience getting to know the kids and helping them find their interests.” She, too, has earned a spot on the Cal Poly Pomona dance team, where she can express herself and her love of dance. Monica is graduating in the spring and has enjoyed making great friends and memories on the team. “Not only do I get to perform at basketball games, but I also get to dance my favorite dance styles with my team every week,” Monica said. She enjoys Jazz and Hip Hop the most.

Being a part of a college dance team means hours of training, rehearsing, and performing multiple nights a week. In addition, they are constantly learning new choreography to help improve their technique and skill level.

Monica and Megan have been best friends and dancing side by side for years and plan to continue to cheer each other on through all their future endeavors. They are great role models for the dance community and have never stopped doing what they love, no matter their age or place in life.
