Golf star Chase Wilson commits to Campbellsville University

FRANKLIN, Ky. — Golf is as much of a mental sport as it is a physical one. During his time at Franklin-Simpson High School, golfer Chase Wilson proved that his capabilities in both the mental and physical areas were up for the challenge. Ultimately, Wilson was able to earn a spot on the Campbellsville University collegiate golf team as a result of both his talent and the results that he produced during his excellent high school career.

“I felt like this was a long time coming,” Wilson said after signing his letter of intent to play at Campbellsville. “Now that this day has come, it makes all the work, tournaments, the wins and struggles all add up. This was the sum of everything throughout my high school playing career.”

A prime example of Wilson’s mental fortitude on the course was his 2020 Region 3 tournament victory as a junior. Following an 8th place finish in the regional tournament as a sophomore, he rallied in the following year through inclement weather and a competitive leaderboard to end up with a birdie putt on the final hole for a chance at the win. True to form, he sank the putt.

“I was excited the very first time I saw Chase (Wilson) play and watched how smooth he was,” Campbellsville University head golf coach Rick Davis said after Wilson’s signing to Campbellsville. “Never gets rattled, that was the main thing I saw from him. With the group of young men we have returning to play, Chase will fit in really very well with them. Their personalities and values are so much alike and knowing what his golf game is, I am confident that he will challenge for one of those top five spots on the team as a freshman.”

Aside from his aforementioned win in the 2020 Region 3 tournament, Wilson racked up a series of other impressive accomplishments throughout his days as a Franklin-Simpson Wildcat. He joined the varsity golf team as an 8th grader and spent a full five-year period with the team.

Wilson qualified for four Kentucky state golf tournaments in his five seasons with the team and earned three first team All-Region appearances. However, Wilson won’t be resting on his laurels as he heads to Campbellsville.

“Hopefully, I can bring the success I had in high school to the next level, and I am confident that I can,” he said. “I’m sure there will be a little bit of a transition, but golf can be a game of a fairway, a green and a hole, but very much looking forward to playing at the next level.”

With both his swing and his mental focus at a high level, Wilson is sure to make a strong impact at the next level. His consistent play and clutch ability are both valuable assets to a competitive golf team at Campbellsville University, and his strong high school career leaves an indelible mark on the Franklin-Simpson golf program.
