Weston girls tennis holding onto No. 1 spot in D3 power rankings

WESTON, Mass. — The Weston Girls Tennis Team is off to a great start this season, holding the top spot in the Division 3 Power Rankings and an 8-3 record! The team is led by Captains Samantha Buckhout, Samantha Burns, Emmie Gray, and Lola Philipkosky. All four seniors are strong contributors at first and second doubles as well as in singles from time to time.

The first and second singles duo of sophomore Olivia Rome and junior Olivia Chen has been a strength at the top of the lineup. They recently combined for a one-two punch against tough DCL opponent Concord-Carlisle with the deciding point added from Buckhout and sophomore Jackie Burns at first doubles.

This past week, Weston hosted a non-league opponent, Mount Alvernia, which provided the opportunity for Jackie and Sam Burns to compete at first and second singles, respectively, notching solid victories! Additionally, the sisters Emmie and sophomore Cece Gray were strong at second doubles, while Buckhout and sophomore Libby Galton at first doubles and freshman Lila Li at third singles won their respective matches. The team is also fortunate to have returning players, junior Ella Kim and sophomores Alida Svensson and Abby Gilli, and new talent in sophomores Katie Gaw and Cortney Leung, who have all brought their athleticism, skill, and passion to round out the varsity squad this spring.
