Lionel Messi reportedly joining Inter Miami FC in 2023 but his team deny the claims

MIAMI (BVM) – Lionel Messi is reportedly heading to the MLS. Alex Candal announced the news on Futbol Total DirecTV. According to the report, Messi would join Inter Miami FC in the summer of 2023 following the end of his contract with PSG and will also be acquiring a 35% stake in the team.

If he does in fact make the move, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will be the latest and arguably the highest profile player to ever play professional soccer in the USA since Pele joined the New York Cosmos in 1975. Messi would also join fellow soccer legend David Beckham as a part of the ownership group for Miami.

Beckham made the move to the MLS back in 2007 when he signed with the LA Galaxy. Beckham would play with the MLS squad as well as be on loan to European teams until his retirement in 2013. The British football star also helped the Galaxy win the MLS Cup in 2011, beating the Houston Dynamo 1-0.

Since the news originally broke, according to Dairio Sport, Messi’s team has reportedly denied the claims that the Argentine will join the MLS franchise. According to Dario, those close to the 34-year old soccer player say that Messi has made no decision on his future after his two-year contract with PSG is up in the summer of 2023.

Messi has said in the past he is interested in playing soccer professionally but if that will happen in the next year is not certain.

“I always had the illusion of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States, living what the League is, living life there I would like,” Messi said in an interview with La Sexta.

The soccer superstar will have decisions to make after the end of his time playing for Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this November.
