Purcellville Cannons are back in action

PURCELLVILLE, Va. — The Purcellville Cannons will be back in action this summer as they look to compete for a championship in the Valley Baseball League. With players on their roster from across the country, the team didn’t have to look very far to fill two of their roster spots for the 2022 Season.

Wyatt Miles and Brady Drawbaugh, both Western Loudoun natives and former Woodgrove High School teammates, will be back playing together at Fireman’s Field with the Cannons this summer.

Both 20-year-olds have always had the game of baseball as a cornerstone in their lives.  Playing for the first time together in T-ball with Upper Loudoun Little League it was evident that Miles and Drawbaugh were eager to learn the game from the ground up.  Since day one Miles and Drawbaugh have aspired to what most young players do and that’s to play professionally.

From their early days of Little League to their current collegiate teams, both players describe that baseball provides a great sense of comradery and the importance of teamwork on and off the field.

Some of the best advice that Drawbaugh has been given is to play every game like it’s your last.  Similarly, Miles has played with some sage advice from his father and long time coach, Dan, that you should appreciate every moment of playing because one day it will all be over.

Drawbaugh and Miles echo one another when they talk about what they love about baseball.  Seeing the results of hard work, helping your team anyway you can,  the thrill of competition and just putting on the uniform.  They will once again get to put on the same uniforms on June 4th for a 7pm against the River Bandits from Woodstock.  They know that big dreams take hard work and playing for a team like the Cannons is that next step in their journey.

As of press time, Miles, a second year Infielder, at Frederick Community College is looking to return to the JUCO World Series and Drawbaugh, a Junior Outfielder at Mount St. Mary’s, is finishing up his regular season with the Mountaineers.
