DOTHAN, Ala. — They come from all over the world. The history abounds from the majestic club house throughout the terrain of the course. Many defeats have been felt on the 18th green and victories shared as well. The names in the history book read Mize, Cink, Watson, Immelman, Scheffler, just to name a few. The prestigious jacket and trophy looms near by……No, it’s not the Masters but the Future Masters. For 72 years, generations have shared the dreams of winning the Press Thornton Future Masters in Dothan, AL at the Dothan Country Club. Grandfathers are now returning with their grandsons reliving the years of their own dreams. The setting is pretty much the same as time continues to rekindle the friendships made.

Through the sweltering heat of the South in the middle of summer, memories abound with thoughts of making the birdie putt to win or making a play-off. Over the years the names and faces may change, but the ultimate lesson learned remains the same. Future Masters is not, nor has it ever been, only about golf, it is about the spirit of competition, friendships made, sportsmanship on the course and the challenge of persevering. Mr. Press Thornton’s dream has been realized– more than a half of a century of growing golf!

The dreams will continue as a new crop of juniors hit the course, June 18-25, 2022. Some returning for their final round and some nervously anticipating their first. Each year over 125 volunteers are called upon to assist with the task of scoring, rules, and marshaling to ensure the success of the event. They also show southern hospitality to the almost 500 players and their families. The media also plays a huge role in showcasing the talent and reporting the scores during the week long tournament. The digital scoreboard illuminates from behind 18 green scrolling scores and updates, just like on the PGA Tour. Hotels, restaurants, and local attractions welcome our guest to town, making a huge impact on the tourism industry!

Please plan to attend the 73rd Annual Press Thornton Future Masters, at the Dothan Country Club in Dothan, AL. There is no admission charge, and spectators can easily roam the golf course and even sit around the 18th green on bleachers.
