Cushing was brought in as an assistant by Delia in 2020 from Manchester City’s women’s team and has been seen as an up and coming manager at age 37.
Taking over the women’s team in 2013, Cushing won a trophy in his first season, defeating Arsenal in the FA WSL Cup. In 2015-16, City did not lose a single game only allowing four goals all season. This would be the team’s first title in their history.
Cushing won the FA WSL Cup that season also and won a third in 2017.

The 2016 FA Women’s Football Awards Manager of the Year has received a new long-term contract with NYCFC along with his interim promotion. Key assistants Rob Vartughian and Mehdi Ballouchy have also received new contracts with the club.
NYCFC is currently on top of the Eastern Conference with 26 points and a plus-15 goal differential. If Cushing can keep them afloat heading into the 2022 postseason, there should be serious discussion about removing the interim tag for the promising coach.
