7. Russell Gary, DB, Central
Gary was not originally planning on being a defensive back. The Central High School product went to the University of Nebraska as a running back. However, following his freshman year, the Minneapolis native made the switch to DB and never looked back. As a senior for the Cornhuskers, Gary was first-team All-Big Eight and an honorable mention All-American. Gary then went in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft to the New Orleans Saints. Gary played most of his NFL football with the Saints and was even named a first team UPI All-NFC selection in 1983. Gary finished his career with the Philadelphia Eagles with seven interceptions, four sacks and three forced fumbles.
