Adirondack Thunder hockey team prepares for approaching season

GLEN FALLS, N.Y. — The Adirondack Thunder is excited to get going into our seventh season here in Glens Falls.  Our home opener at the Cool Insurance Arena on October 29 will be against the Worcester Railers.

The coaching staff is giving the fans something to look forward to with our team being assembled. Great forwards/defense/ and goalies will provide us with the edge to get back to the top of our division. We can’t wait to see the fans back in the seats smiling and cheering on the Thunder.

Over the last year we have been constructing new luxury suite boxes for our upcoming season. There are four new suites up top that will house both business and families as they spend time with us as a group.

Another good improvement was the repair of the arena roof. We struggled with the old roof  having leaks so we’re all very happy with the new cover.

Of course, the players and coaches are the reason fans come to the Cool Insurance Arena. Local ties make it all the better. Our Head Coach Peter MacArthur and Defenseman Jeff Taylor are from Clifton Park. Forward Shawn Weller is from just across the bridge in South Glens Falls.

Working with the guys for the first time this year is Jasmine Honey, our new athletic trainer, and we’re excited to have her part of the team! Jasmine brings great experience from her time in the SPHL with the Knoxville Ice bears where she had 13 years of athletic training experience.

Rob Lippolis is also joining us this season as our Director of Communications & Broadcasting. Rob comes from Binghamton where he served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the AHL Devils from 2017-21. We’re excited for the fresh start with some very talented people.

If fans can’t make it to our games, the best place to watch would be on Flosports, the official video broadcast of the ECHL. Or,  listen to the radio call on Hits 95.5 FM.

A handful of our players that have played with us have made it to the NHL. Most are goalies including Mackenzie Blackwood who was called up by the New Jersey Devils.

Others who advanced include former Thunders Logan Thompson, Connor Ingrim, Scott Wedgewood, Ken Appleby, Dylan Olson, Colton White and Ryan Lomberg.

The Adirondack Thunder have been in Glens Falls since 2015.  The 2020-21 season was canceled due to Covid.
