MIAMI (BVM) – Following the “butt punt” that took place in the Buffalo-Miami game this weekend, Trent Sherfield took to Twitter.

What could have been a disastrous moment for the Dolphins, turned into a laughable one.

For many, it might be their introduction to the 26-year-old wide receiver, but Sherfield has been able to carve out a role in the NFL since 2018.

Sherfield has played a lot of special teams throughout his pro career, but he was a dynamic receiver throughout his college days at Vanderbilt.

The Illinois native accumulated 136 receptions and 1,869 yards during his time as a Commodore, both ranking eighth in school history.

As a senior, Sherfield served as a captain for Vanderbilt.

Despite the Commodores finishing 5-7 in his final season, Sherfield was a beloved player in Nashville.

Sherfield went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, but was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent.

During his first preseason, Sherfield flashed his special teams ability with a blocked punt that was brought back for a touchdown.

He showed enough to make the 53-man roster and finished his rookie season with 19 catches and 210 yards.

After three seasons in Arizona, Sherfield spent last season in San Francisco where he primarily played a special teams role, before moving into a similar position in Miami this year.

Through three games, Sherfield has four receptions for 22 yards.

While the results of the “butt punt” could have been worse, Sherfield has the right attitude about it, having multiple interactions about the play on social media.

His Miami teammates also had fun with the moment following the victory.

Some Dolphins fans may not have even known who Sherfield was before the play, but now he has the potential to become a fan favorite throughout the remainder of the season.
