Get to know Dothan HS football player Wesley Farmer
DOTHAN, Ala. — Wesley Farmer’s football kicking career began with conversations with Dothan High strength coach, Richard Shaugnessy. “He recruited me because the starting kicker graduated last year. Then Coach Kennedy (Jed) talked with me and told me his expectations for kickers and that gave me the nudge to go ahead and do it,” Farmer said.
Kennedy’s expectations gave Farmer space to continue his love for playing soccer with Dothan High School and with the Dothan Shockers travel ball team. Playing soccer since he was four years old, Farmer admits that he loves it. He is excited about the upcoming Wolves Soccer season and the possibility to make a deep playoff run.
Before soccer becomes the main thing, Farmer is looking forward to completing the football season. Through the Central Phenix City vs. Dothan matchup, the Wolves scored 229 points which means that Farmer has had ample opportunity to demonstrate his ability to kick a football. He has definitely proven that ability! Through seven games he was perfect on PAT’s. He is certainly enjoying his kicking success, but was very intentional to share the credit. “My long-snapper is sophomore Gabe Smith and my holder is senior Adam Watford. I couldn’t do it without them. We have a good bond between the three of us.”
Farmer is very complimentary of Coach Kennedy. “Coach has made a night and day difference. He gives other sports such support, not just football. He doesn’t just want to make an impact on the football team, but the whole school and the whole community.”
Wesley’s parents are Brooke and Kenneth Farmer. He has one older sister, Madilyn and one younger sister, Catherine. Playing college sports is the goal for Farmer. He hopes to get a college offer in football or soccer. But, before that, he has one more year with the Wolves and that is a very good thing for DHS football! We look forward to watching his kicking success in football and soccer!
