Top 10 Detroit Red Wings goalies of all time
10. Johnny Mowers (1940-43, 1946-47)
Mowers got off to a hot start. The Niagara Falls native notched a 2.01 goals-against average (GAA) in his first year. Plus he finished as runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy. His peak followed two years later as Detroit won the 1943 Stanley Cup. The 5-foot-11 netkeeper nabbed the NHL’s Vezina Trophy along with an All-Star nod for his efforts.
Today's #ForgottenGem is Johnny Mowers.
The #1 goalie of the #DetroitRedWings from 1940 to 1943, Mowers won the #Vezina Trophy and the #StanleyCup in 1943. He joined the #WWII effort at the end of that season then returned in 1946-47, however, he only played 7 more #NHL games. pic.twitter.com/QBMo0aXVsz
