ATLANTA (BVM) – For the first time in his career, Dansby Swanson is a free agent. As a talented shortstop and a strong hitter, Swanson is one of the hottest names on the market this offseason.

However, the Atlanta Braves star is not the only shortstop that is likely to be available, with guys like Trea Turner, Carlos Correa and Xander Bogaerts rounding out a deep free agent class at the position.

Yet, at just 28 years old, Swanson would be a big get for several interested teams. After being selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2015 MLB Draft, the Vanderbilt product was traded to the Atlanta Braves prior to the 2016 season.

Back in his home state, Swanson made his MLB debut that same year, showing early flashes of promise. However, throughout the next few seasons, the shortstop was inconsistent at the plate as he battled through injuries.

By the shortened 2020 season, however, Swanson began showing signs of why he was a top pick. In 2021, he became a true star for an eventual World Series-champion Braves squad, racking up 27 home runs and 88 RBIs while contributing many clutch hits throughout the postseason.

Swanson’s numbers only got better last season, as he hit .277 with a .776 OPS, amassing 25 home runs, and career highs in RBIs (96) and stolen bases (18).

Coming off his first All-Star appearance, Swanson seems to be entering the prime of his career which is sure to have many squads interested in him this offseason. Here are three teams who could look to strike a deal with the shortstop.
