FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Friday night lights wouldn’t be the same without the positive energy from the Fort Loramie Varsity Cheer Team. Whitney has been coaching cheerleading at Fort Loramie for the past four years and loves being able to support the school and its students.

“Cheerleading provides individuals with an opportunity to showcase skills while promoting positivity and support,” Bettinger says.

She’s very passionate about coaching and enjoys being involved in the lives of her cheerleaders. The team spends a lot of time together, from practices to making signs for the hallways, and of course, Friday night football games.

Coach Bettinger loves being able to support the members of her squad. “I get to be there when they learn a new skill, make mistakes and provide them support, or just be there as they grow into young adults.”

The dynamic of the team in one filled with positivity and support. Each member is motivated to perform their best and constantly improve their skills.

“The current and past cheerleaders I’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with hold themselves to the highest expectations,” Bettinger says. They don’t just want to be good, they strive to be great!”

All of their practice leads up to the most anticipated element of cheerleading–performing at the games. Each cheerleader plays an active role in creating an engaging atmosphere at sporting events.

“They are expected to call eight cheers every game, or two per quarter,” Coach Bettinger tells us. “If you do the math, that is a total of 96 cheers every game!”

Fort Loramie sophomore Audrey Wrasman is a member of the Varsity squad and shares what she loves most about being a cheerleader for Fort Loramie.

“My favorite thing about being on a team is that you’re all in it together,” Wrasman says. “We celebrate each other’s successes and we pick each other up when we’re having rough days. We’re like a little family in rhinestones.”

The outlook for the future of the squad is filled with promise. The team is excited for what lies ahead of them.

“We are hoping to get back into competing this year and are looking at the Game Day division, ” Coach Bettinger says. “The squad enjoys putting on our Little Cheer fundraiser each year and looks forward to having their second one during Basketball season. We would also love to be more involved in the community and are open to helping at local events.”

There are undoubtedly so many wonderful components the Fort Loramie Cheer Team provides for their community. You can find them under glittering stadium lights and promoting positive messages around the school–truly a one-of-a-kind group of athletes.
