Top 5 Thanksgiving Day games in NFL history
5. 2012: New England Patriots 49, New York Jets 19
The first and only blowout to appear on this list, this AFC East battle is less about the final result and more about a singular moment that is still the “butt” of jokes to this day (no pun intended). After a scoreless first quarter, Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez fumbled after colliding with the backside of offensive lineman Brandon Moore. Patriots’ safety Steve Gregory returned the fumble for a touchdown and the “butt fumble” was born. The mishap was emblematic of the Jets’ ineptitude on Turkey Day, as they lost three fumbles in a span of 52 seconds in the second quarter. It was the first Thanksgiving primetime game on a broadcast network and will live on forever in infamy.
