Jeff Sims: Best landing spots for Georgia Tech transfer QB

ATLANTA (BVM) – Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims announced via Twitter in late November that he would be entering the transfer portal. Sims is one of multiple Power Five quarterbacks to enter the transfer portal and will definitely be one of the most sought after by college programs.

Over his three years with the Yellow Jackets, Sims completed 364-of-633 passes for 4,463 yards with 30 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,166 yards and 11 touchdowns during that same time. This season, a foot injury caused him to miss the last five games of the season but in the seven games he played in, he threw for 1,115 yards and five touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4 dualthreat quarterback is a former four-star and has been solid through the air and on the ground. A few teams are already rumored to be interested in Sims and the quarterback shouldn’t have trouble finding a new home.

Indiana

Indiana’s starting quarterback, Connor Bazelak, a transfer from Missouri, has entered the transfer portal. The Hoosiers still have Dexter Williams II on the roster but he has dealt with multiple injuries during his time with Indiana so Tom Allen will likely be looking for another quarterback. Sims would contribute a lot to an Indiana team that is trying to rise in the Big 10 conference. His dualthreat ability would instantly help the Hoosiers’ passing game and the ground game as Indiana’s leading rusher only had 592 yards this season. If Sims can stay healthy and recover from his foot injury, he would be a great quarterback for the Hoosiers.

Virginia Tech

The Hokies are likely looking into their options at quarterback after Marshall transfer Grant Wells threw for 2,171 yards, nine touchdowns and nine interceptions. Once again, Sims would give Virginia Tech another dimension on offense as a runner. As a passer, Sims would be just as capable as, if not better than, Wells. Also VT does have a history of developing dual-threat quarterbacks and even though Sims is no Michael Vick, he would bring some much needed offensive firepower for the Hokies.

Tennessee

Hendon Hooker is likely heading to the NFL Draft. The Volunteers do have five-star Class of 2023 quarterback Nico Iamaleava coming to Knoxville but Tennessee will want options at quarterback. Josh Heupel was able to take Hooker’s game to a whole other level when he transferred from Virginia Tech. Hooker threw for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions while also rushing for another 430 yards and five touchdowns. It’s not hard to believe that Heupel would be able to do the same with Sims and it would give Iamaleava time to develop or give him real competition for the starting spot as a freshman.
