Ranking the top 10 Dallas Mavericks players of all time
3. Michael Finley (1996-2005)
Finley is another guy who became a spark plug for the Mavs’ success in the early 2000s. After starting his career in Phoenix, the Wisconsin product was traded to the Mavericks during the 1996-97 season. He showed his potential immediately in Dallas, averaging 16 points across 56 games to close the year. Over the next five seasons, Finley would go on to score 20 points or more per game each year, while also consistently averaging over five rebounds and four assists. Finley always showed strong touch from the outside, and was a durable forward who often played over 40 minutes per game. A two-time All-Star in 2000 and 2001, Finley would go on to become an NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs, but his legacy in Dallas remains. Finley’s 12,389 points with the Mavs currently rank fifth all time, as do his 4,834 field goals made. The do-it-all player is also top five in franchise history in 3-point field goals made in both the regular season and playoffs, and sits fifth in career rebounds (3,245), fourth in career steals (748), and ninth in career assists (2,393) for the Mavs.
