(BVM) – The 2022-23 NBA regular season is nearing its halfway point, and fans have been treated to some incredible basketball thus far. There have been some unexpected struggles from teams that figured to be in title contention like the defending champion Golden State Warriors, the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat, while the emergence of some teams who were not expected to do much this season such as the Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers has surprised many early on.

However, what has ultimately dominated headlines thus far in the NBA season is the play of some of the league’s brightest stars. Whether it’s Donovan Mitchell’s recent 71-point effort, Giannis Antetokounmpo setting a career-high with 55 points, or Luka Doncic putting together a ridiculous 60-point, 21-rebound, 10-assist triple-double, it seems that night in and night out, the league is seeing one of its budding stars go off.

As a result, the race for the NBA MVP award is extremely tight through the first half of the season. There are multiple guys who have an argument to win the honor already, and will look to strengthen their case through the second half of the year. Here are the top five NBA MVP candidates through the season’s first half.
