Top 10 Fighting Illini men’s basketball players of all time
9. Nick Anderson
An All-American honorable mention in both 1988 and 1989, Anderson played a key role in the 1989 Flyin’ Illini team that made it all the way to the Final Four. In fact, Anderson was named the Midwest Regional’s most outstanding player that year thanks to his stellar play.
While Anderson’s statistics aren’t the highest in program history, ranking only No. 38 in scoring with 1,172 points, he is still seventh on the Illini career shooting list at 55.3%. Aside from his 1989 NCAA Tournament heroics, Anderson is likely best known for making one of the most famous shots in program history when he hit a buzzer-beating shot to defeat No. 3 Indiana at Bloomington in 1989.
