Top 5 NFL draft fits for Florida QB Anthony Richardson
(BVM) – Anthony Richardson could be the NFL’s next superstar quarterback. The Florida Gators redshirt sophomore possesses all the tools – elite arm strength, athleticism, explosiveness – to be a game-changer at the sport’s most important position. He even admitted during the NFL scouting combine that he used to call himself “Cam Jackson” in 11th grade, a blend of former MVP quarterbacks Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson.
However, despite Richardson claiming to not “even know what that means,” he’s widely viewed as a project quarterback for a few different reasons.
First and foremost, Richardson turns 22 years old in May and has just one season as a collegiate starting quarterback under his belt. Then there’s Richardson’s inconsistent footwork and throwing mechanics that oftentimes led to accuracy issues (he completed just 53.8% of his passes in 2022). This reared its ugly head particularly during Richardson’s first month as a starter when he threw just two touchdowns to five interceptions in September.
The good news is that Richardson showed improvement as the season went on, throwing 15 touchdowns to just four interceptions the rest of the way. More importantly, he flashed his extremely high upside on multiple occasions and it’s that potential that could make Richardson the most polarizing prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.
With Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud expected to be the first two quarterbacks taken, here are the top five fits for Richardson via April’s NFL draft.
