WVU’s Tre Mitchell transferring; 5 possible landing spots

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (BVM) – The resignation of former head coach Bob Huggins from the West Virginia program led to its first domino falling this week with the transfer announcement of Tre Mitchell. The now-graduate forward will be entering his name in the portal for the third time in his career as the Mountaineers’ program faces some upcoming changes.

Mitchell averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in his lone season at West Virginia as the senior provided key minutes in the team’s firstround appearance in the NCAA Tournament. West Virginia and its senior starter would balance an up-and-down campaign this past year as they finished eighth in the Big 12 behind an 19-15 record.

The 6-foot-9 forward is set to join his fourth collegiate team after opening his career with the UMass Minutemen. Mitchell would go on to play his junior season at Texas before his move this past year to West Virginia. After a down year with the Longhorns, the Mountaineers senior re-found his groove in 2022-23 and he hopes to parlay the success into a similar role elsewhere.

With plenty of teams still working within the transfer portal, here’s five potential landing spots for the graduate transfer.
