Christian Wood set for free agency; Top 5 landing spots
DALLAS (BVM) – Christian Wood is entering free agency and the Dallas Mavericks are rumored to have no intentions of re-signing him. This means that the 27-year-old, 6-foot-10 center is going somewhere else once free agency begins.
Wood’s time in Dallas was less than ideal and most of it was due to his lack of ability on the defensive side of the ball. That appeared to keep him out of the starting lineup and coming off the bench for the Mavericks. Even though he was coming off the bench, Wood still averaged 16.6 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 37.6% from 3-point range, and 59.4% from the field.
It wasn’t the season he was hoping for and it likely will affect the kind of contract he will get in free agency. However, Wood is still young and has shown an ability to be dangerous on the offensive side of the ball. He can handle the ball well, is quick and can stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting. Wood has proven he can be a 20-point, 10-rebound-a-night center and on the right team, he could be a lot of help to a playoff contender.
Wood might have to sign a one-year contract that is more of a prove it deal, but there will be plenty of teams looking to add his services to the roster. Here are the top five landing spots for Wood in free agency.
