Justin Verlander on the trade block; 5 possible landing spots

NEW YORK (BVM) – The Mets have begun selling, initiated by their move of David Robertson to the Marlins, with Tommy Pham and Mark Canha likely on their way out as well. The baseball world now wonders just how big New York’s fire sale will be.

Justin Verlander is the obvious name to watch here.

It was a shaky start for New York’s big signing this winter, but he has really settled in as of late posting a 1.46 ERA over his last six starts. If the Mets are willing to move him, there are multiple aspects that need to be considered.

The 40-year-old is still due to make over 43 million dollars next year with a vesting option of $35 million for 2025. The Mets can pick up some of the tab for the remainder of this year and next to help their prospect return, but they would not be able to contribute on Verlander’s potential 2025 salary because it is not guaranteed money.

The three-time Cy Young winner also has a full no-trade clause.

With all of that being said, here are the destinations that Verlander could say yes to and what a deal may look like.
