Q&A with Topsail softball first baseman Kinley Jordan

HAMPSTEAD, N.C. — We asked Topsail Pirates softball team member Kinley Jordan to answer these questions about her team.

Who are your coaches?

Kinley Jordan: Eric Phillips, Mike Carter, Mike Sorg, Shaun Krueger, Dawson Tippet, Savannah Capbianco

Please share some history or backstory on the team.

Jordan: The Topsail Lady Pirates are a 4A High School softball team located in Hampstead, North Carolina. The Lady Pirates have a roster full of talent and energy and a coaching staff with great knowledge of the game.

What are the team’s goals for the upcoming season?

Jordan: Next season is far from view at the moment, but our ultimate goal is to win games and chase the ring once again.

Who are the team’s captains or leaders? What makes them a vital part of the team’s success?

Jordan: The past year’s team captains were Senior Zoey Vincent and Kennedy Sloan. They were honest, and they made the team work together to compete at the highest level. Team captains are important when it comes to relaying information and keeping the team cohesive. With Vincent as a 2023 graduate, the next year’s team captains are undecided.

Does the team have any pregame rituals or traditions?

Jordan: We always play music on the field when warming up. Our pregame is fast-paced, and it gets us hyped up for the competition. After that, we take a team picture on Coach Carter’s phone and get ready to be called out on the field. When we win, we run to the outfield for a huddle, and Randy Sloan takes a picture of us holding up Ws.

How does the team welcome new members?

Jordan: The Lady Pirates welcome new players with open arms. Softball is a team sport where you create great friendships. New teammates are always loved and accepted. Each of us is always willing to pick up our teammates and make everyone feel part of our team.

How does the team celebrate?

Jordan: We cheer and have tons of energy. We are always yelling, hugging, and high fiving. Our team’s enthusiasm for each other’s success is what makes us a great team.

Has the team or any individuals broken any records this year?

Jordan: Not yet!!!

What has motivated the team to reach its goals this season?

Jordan: Our coaches have always been our biggest motivators. They don’t let us fail alone, and they work hard to make us better at the game. They give this team everything they have when they’re out there, and they make this team worth the time and effort. We love our coaches, and they love us back. We owe our success to their hard work to make this program great!

Anything else you’d like to add?
