Every ACC football program’s best season of all time
Boston College: 1940
While the Eagles were not part of the ACC at the time, the conference not forming until 1953, this is easily the best squad Boston College has put together. That season, second-year head coach Frank Leahy led the Eagles to an undefeated 11-0 record while outscoring opponents 339-65 including six shutouts.
The team’s best win came in the Sugar Bowl where No. 5 BC defeated No. 4 Tennessee 19-13. At the time, the AP poll was released prior to postseason action, so the final standing of No. 5 didn’t change after the decisive win, yet that still remains tied for the highest finish in the final AP poll in program history, proving the team’s standing in the annals of history.
