Tiger Woods, Mike Trout reveal new plans for NJ golf course

VINELAND, N.J. (BVM) – Mike Trout is a three-time AL MVP who continues to be one of the faces of Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Angels. However, Trout’s passion for another sport, golf, continues to be well documented.

In March, the Angels outfielder announced he would be collaborating with Tiger Woods and his TGR Design team to create a private, 18-hole championship golf course in Vineland, New Jersey.
We promised you all a big announcement and here it is! We are so excited to be able to make a longtime dream of mine a reality, with none other than @tigerwoods and @tgrdesignbytw. We can't wait to share more updates with you as we create Trout National – The Reserve. pic.twitter.com/V8eMGEUYdS

“I’m so excited to finally officially announce that we’re doing this project and doing it in a community that means so much to me,” Trout said in a press release in March. “I was born in Vineland and raised in Millville. I met my wife, Jessica, in Millville, and my parents and siblings and in-laws still live in the area. I could put down roots anywhere in the country, but Jessica and I make South Jersey our off-season home and always cherish the time we get to spend there.
“I love South Jersey and I love golf, so creating Trout National – The Reserve is a dream come true. And then to add to that we’ll have a golf course designed by Tiger? It’s just incredible to think that this project has grown to where we’re going to be working with someone many consider the greatest and most influential golfer of all time.”
Trout attended Millville High School just a few miles away from Vineland, which is less than an hour drive south of Philadelphia. While collaborating with Woods is thrilling for Trout, the 15-time major champion also made his excitement clear during the announcement back in March.
“I’ve always watched Mike on the diamond so when an opportunity arose to work with him on Trout National – The Reserve, I couldn’t pass it up,” Woods said in a press release. “It’s a great site for golf and our team’s looking forward to creating a special course for Mike, Jessica, John and Lorie.”
With excitement building for the course which is slated to open in 2025, Trout recently released a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing he, Woods, and Woods’ chief design director Beau Welling on the property of the site of the new course, finalizing course routing.

Currently, Trout National – The Reserve is slated to be a par-72 golf course built on land of a former silica sand mine and rambling farmland, featuring a traditional four par-3 holes and four par-5 holes. The course will play as long as 7,455 yards from the back tees.
“Some of my favorite golf experiences have been ones that have challenged my game while still having fun and that’s what we wanted to create at Trout National – The Reserve,” Trout said in a press release as the course routing was revealed. “Tiger, John [Ruga] and I walked hole by hole and this course will do just that. Our vision and his design is creating something special here in my hometown.”
“Mike and John found a site with a lot of character to make some outstanding golf holes,” Tiger added in the same press release. “The sandy and diverse terrain has so many great natural features that have given us a lot of options on how to create a world-class golf course.”

As progress on the course continues heading into 2023, both Woods and Trout are also looking to get back to form in their respective sports. Trout has had a bit of a lost season as he has dealt with a wrist injury, batting just .263 for an Angels squad that has fallen out of playoff contention.
Meanwhile, Woods has not teed it up in a professional event since the Masters back in April where he withdrew during the third round of the season’s first major due to a foot injury. Having surgery soon after, Woods missed the final three majors of the year, but optimism remains he will return sooner than later after recently being spotted on the golf course with his son, Charlie.

Despite some of the low moments for both star athletes over the past few months, Trout and Woods continue to create excitement with this new course in New Jersey, one that is sure to produce several thrilling moments for many once open in 2025.
