NFC North’s top 5 breakout candidates in 2023
Honorable mention
Brian Asamoah II, Minnesota Vikings
A third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Asamoah II has all the tools to become the next star linebacker in Minnesota. He didn’t do much statistically for the Vikings in his rookie season, but he will have every opportunity to shine as he did in college at Oklahoma State with more reps in 2023.
Jaquan Brisker, Chicago Bears
Although he is dealing with an injury right now, Brisker is poised for a strong second season with the Bears. The Penn State product showed flashes of brilliance last year while making 104 total tackles, four sacks and an interception.
Jack Campbell, Detroit Lions
It’s not far-fetched that the Lions have rookies leading them in several statistical categories on both sides of the ball in 2023, and Campbell should become an immediate impact linebacker for a defense that has struggled in recent years after racking up 268 total tackles the past two seasons at Iowa.
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Christian Watson garnered the headlines last year, but Doubs put together a 400-yard, three-score season and looked like a go-to guy prior to injuries in the back half of the campaign. If health cooperates, he could be the Packers’ leading receiver in 2023.
Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions
Racking up nearly 1,800 yards receiving during his time at Iowa, LaPorta is one of several young Lions rookies who could have an immediate impact this season, and has reportedly looked good throughout the summer.
