College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 4
4. No. 4 Florida State vs. Clemson – Saturday, 12:00 p.m. ET, ABC
After Clemson’s Week 1 loss to Duke, this matchup doesn’t have quite the same hype around it, but the 36th meeting between the programs still should be a good one. While the rivalry dates back to 1970, Florida State and Clemson began playing annually in 1992, with the Seminoles going 20-15 against the Tigers all time. However, Clemson has dominated the rivalry in the Dabo Swinney era, and has seven straight wins over the Noles.
Ranked as the No. 4 team in the country, FSU will come into this year’s contest as the favorite, in part thanks to a season-opening win over LSU. Jordan Travis was phenomenal in that game and has looked like a potential Heisman candidate early in the season, but nearly blowing a 21-point lead late last week to an inferior Boston College team could be a bit concerning for the Seminoles.
On the other side, Clemson has bounced back from its Week 1 loss with blowout wins over Charleston Southern and FAU. A top-10 defensive unit overall in the nation has been key while the offense tries to find its footing under quarterback Cade Klubnik. A home win at Memorial Stadium would have the Tigers back in the top 25, while a victory for FSU would go a long way towards a future College Football Playoff berth.
