Ranking the 10 best potential 2023 MLB postseason matchups
10. Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Should the Brewers and Cubs resume their rivalry in this year’s postseason, it would come next week in the wild-card round. While that would perhaps make the series a bit less intriguing compared to some on this list, the atmosphere created by the teams meeting up in the postseason for the first time would be unmatched. It’s no secret Cubs fans tend to flock to American Family Field when the Brewers host their rival which would create one of the best environments of the postseason in the teams’ biggest matchup since 2018’s Game 163.
Right now, the Brewers lead the all-time series versus the Cubs with a 214-213 record, and the teams have gone an even 5-5 against each other in 2023 with several highly-contested matchups. Outside of the rivalry resuming, Milwaukee and Chicago would simply provide an entertaining postseason matchup, as the Brewers have surged in recent months behind a dominant pitching trio of Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta, as well as some offensive reinforcements acquired in the second half. The Cubs were on fire throughout July and August as well, but have cooled off in September in part due to some bullpen struggles. Still, a solid lineup led by a resurging Cody Bellinger could give them a chance in Milwaukee.
