“I need to go get healthy for my life, and this lifestyle is just too difficult,” Francona told spectrumnews1.com in August. “I also know how I feel about doing the job a certain way, and I don’t think I can necessarily do that anymore. And that bothers me.”
Francona has managed over 3,500 games, won over 1,900, has two World Series titles (both with the Boston Red Sox) and led Cleveland to the Fall Classic in 2016. The Guardians’ next manager will have big shoes to fill and aim to help the franchise to its first title since 1948.
Here are the five best candidates.
