Rex Ryan: 49ers QB Brock Purdy ‘reminds me of Joe Montana’

SAN FRANCISCO (BVM) — The San Francisco 49ers are one of two undefeated NFL teams this season, led by the No. 3-ranked offense, according to ESPN. Helping the 49ers’ offense thrive is MVP candidate Brock Purdy, and the media is starting to take notice of his abilities.

“Just put a 16 on his jersey … that’s who he reminds me of — Joe Montana,” Rex Ryan said on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “His mobility, how accurate the kid is with the football, the poise that he has. This dude is so confident, he’s got that swag, that natural swag … The guy’s phenomenal. This kid is absolutely spectacular.”

Purdy was the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and has seemingly outplayed his expectations, starting 5-0 in his first two regular seasons, something no other QB has done in the Super Bowl era, according to NFL Research.

Purdy has passed for over 1,200 yards, has nine touchdown passes and has completed 72.1% of his passes this season, according to Pro Football Reference and his most recent victory came on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers handed Dallas a 32-point loss and before the matchup, Cowboys’ head coach, Mike McCarthy, made it clear that Purdy is the real deal.

“I think the biggest thing is you can see he totally has command of the offense,” McCarthy said on 105.3 The Fan on Oct. 4. “I had a chance to see him play a lot last year. I was very impressed.”

Purdy’s NFL career is off to an outstanding start after entering the league as a third-string QB and he’s surrounded by many talented players and coaches who will help him continue to flourish on the gridiron.

“This dude is so confident, he’s got that swag … But his mobility … the guy’s phenomenal,” Ryan said. “He literally steps up and moves in the pocket … has vision down the field. This kid is absolutely spectacular.”
