Byron prepares for Phoenix sweep, Larson eyes 2nd Cup title

The 75th season of the NASCAR Cup Series comes to a close Sunday at Phoenix Raceway for the Championship 4. Half the field is represented by Hendrick Motorsports with William Byron and Kyle Larson battling Christopher Bell and Ryan Blaney. Mike Massaro sits down with the two HMS drivers ahead of the winner-take-all race for a special championship edition of “Cup Connection.”

William Byron discusses the intense pressure of Sunday’s race and the influence of seven-time champion and former teammate, Jimmie Johnson. Byron highlights the necessity of a “must-win” mindset in the title battle. With six wins already on the season, Byron will attempt to complete the sweep in Phoenix this weekend. He can become the sixth different Cup Series driver in HMS history to be crowned champion.

Teammate Kyle Larson shares insights on his playoff performance and pursuit of a second championship in three seasons. He underlines the evolving nature of the sport, where past experience may not guarantee an edge. As the championship race unfolds, Larson’s focus remains on executing a strong weekend and letting the results take care of themselves.

Can Byron return the No. 24 car to the top of the Cup Series for the first time since Jeff Gordon in 2001? Will Kyle Larson become the 18th driver in Cup Series history with multiple titles? A win for either driver would give HMS their 15th championship.
