College football’s top 5 matchups of Week 11

5. No. 13 Tennessee vs. No. 14 Missouri – Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS

Tennessee and Missouri have only played 11 times, with each matchup coming in the last 11 years since the Tigers joined the SEC. Thanks to four consecutive wins, the Volunteers lead the all-time series 6-5, with just three of the 11 matchups ending in one-score finishes. The last two years have been absolute blowouts in favor of the Vols, as Tennessee won 62-24 in 2021 in Columbia, and 66-24 last year in Knoxville.

Heading back to Columbia this year, Tennessee will face a much stiffer test. Both the Tigers and the Vols have been overlooked this season, and while they would need significant help to vie for an SEC title, each team is close to cracking the top 10 and playing in a New Year’s Six game at the very least. That begins with Tennessee which has gone 7-2 so far this year, picking up solid wins over Texas A&M and Kentucky while losing to just Florida and Alabama. As they have all season, the Vols will have to run the ball effectively to beat Mizzou, and currently rank No. 3 in the country in rushing offense behind Jaylen Wright who is closing in on a 1,000-yard season.

Missouri also enters this contest 7-2, losing just to LSU last month and Georgia last weekend. The Tigers hung tough in both of those games, and Mizzou also had some good wins over Kansas State and Kentucky earlier this year. Beating the Vols would likely be the Tigers’ best victory of the season, however, and it will take another strong performance from a top-25 passing offense in the country. It’s led by junior quarterback Brady Cook who has nearly 2,500 passing yards on the year, while receiver Luther Burden III and running back Cody Schrader are both closing in on 1,000-yard seasons. Some offensive fireworks should be expected on Saturday, and whoever wins could be looking at a spot in the top 10 next week.
