BOULDER, Colo. (BVM) – Colorado football player Travis Hunter is estimated to be making millions of dollars thanks to his name, image and likeness. It’s the reason why he was able to purchase his girlfriend a brand-new Tesla Model X for her 22nd birthday.
Hunter and his girlfriend, Leanna Lenee, vlogged about the luxury car purchase for their YouTube channel – which can be viewed below.
The starting purchase price of a Tesla Model X is $79,990. Hunter even customed the electric vehicle with a full body stealth paint protection wrap, ceramic window tint and Hello Kitty door jam designs. The total price comes out to an estimated $130,000, according to Sportskeeda.
“Tell me you are in the NIL era without telling me you are in the NIL era,” wrote one user under Hunter’s Instagram post about the Tesla.
Hunter’s projected annual NIL valuation stands at $2.2 million, according to On3. Within the past month alone, he has posted advertisements for HEYDUDE, Celsius energy drinks, Fortnite and American Eagle.
He booked those lucrative sponsorship deals while proving that he’s one of the most elite talents in college football. He concluded the 2023 season in Colorado with 721 receiving yards on 57 catches and five touchdowns.
But, Hunter’s act of kindness didn’t go without backlash from users on social media. While the Tesla purchase was a drop in the bucket compared to how much he’s making from NIL sponsorship deals – fans online criticized that the gift is way too expensive for a college athlete to give to his girlfriend.
