Victory in the running for Bellbrook girls cross country team
BELLBROOK, Ohio — The 2023 Bellbrook High School girls’ cross country team consisted of 34 runners this year. The team was led by seven seniors, and they had a very successful and exciting season!
From the beginning of Aug. through Oct., the team ran in several 5K races, placing very high at multiple competitive invitational meets. Some notable races included the Bob Schul Invitational at Milton Union; the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival; the Troy Twilight Invitational; and the Centerville High School Saturday Night Lights, which brings teams in from all over Ohio and other surrounding states.
The team ended its regular season by placing first at the SWBL (Southwestern Buckeye League) meet and was named the 2023 SWBL Southwestern Division Champions! The last time the girls won the league title was back in 2018.
Cross country is both physically and mentally challenging. This group of girls gave it everything they had, to achieve their goals this season. Their coaches are extremely proud of their efforts and the bond they built as a team.
After the SWBL meet, the top varsity runners then had the opportunity to race in Cedarville, at the Division 1 district race against all other Division 1 teams in the Dayton area. The girls placed sixth as a team at districts and qualified for the regional meet that takes place in Troy, where they will compete for a chance to go to state (as a team or individuals).
The varsity team is a very young, but talented and hardworking group that consists of four freshmen, two sophomores and one junior. BHS cross country is very excited about the bright future that is in front of them!
