Adrian Griffin fired; 5 Milwaukee Bucks head coach candidates
5. Stan Van Gundy
Van Gundy, the NBA on TNT analyst, has a strong resume as an NBA head coach. During his 13 seasons, Van Gundy led his teams to the playoffs eight times while also making three conference finals appearances and one NBA Finals appearance with the Orlando Magic in 2009. With a 554-425 (.566) coaching record and a 48-43 (.527) playoff record, Van Gundy has proven to be a successful leader in the NBA.
However, there are some concerns regarding Gundy. First, he hasn’t coached since the end of 2020-21 season with the New Orleans Pelicans and that season didn’t go particularly well with the Pelicans finishing just 31-41 on the year. Add the fact that a Van Gundy team hasn’t been to the playoffs since the 2015-16 season and hasn’t won a postseason game since the 2011-12 season and he doesn’t appear to match up with the Bucks’ postseason aspirations.
