Austin Ekeler’s free agency: 5 landing spots for star RB

Indianapolis Colts

Ekeler has a strong relationship with Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who coached him with the Chargers from 2017-20. Indianapolis could also use some depth at the running back position with the team expected to lose Zack Moss in free agency. With Jonathan Taylor having significant injury issues over the past two seasons, adding Ekeler could be a strong move, especially with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, something that cursed the Colts last season.

However, there are some problems with this potential destination. The first is Taylor who will be considered the bellcow even with Ekeler being added. The latter may not want to be in a split-carry situation given his performance over the past few seasons. The other is that while Indianapolis needs depth at the position, they already have so much money tied into Taylor that it wouldn’t necessarily make sense to invest much more capital at running back despite the need and Ekeler’s connections.
