Menomonie baseball hoping to build on late-season momentum and improve each day

Menomonie opened its baseball season with a 9-2 to out-of-state opponent Mascoutah (Il.) Saturday, a 12-1 team that the Mustangs traveled across state lines to play. It’s not the way Menomonie wanted to start the year, but the Mustangs are hoping to take another step forward under head coach Zach Slowiak. Two seasons ago, Menomonie won just a single game but increased that total to eight last year. That included a stretch that saw the Mustangs win five of their last seven games and gave hope of a breakthrough that could carry over into this season.
