Most consecutive national titles among major college sports

Football: 12 back-to-back champs

There have been repeat champions 12 times in the history of college football. Minnesota (1940-41), Army (1944-45) Notre Dame (1946-47), USC (2003-04), and Georgia (2021-22) have all achieved the feat once while Oklahoma (1955-56, 1974-75) and Nebraska (1970-71, 1994-95) have done it on two separate occasions. Alabama (1964-65, 1978-79, 2011-12) has achieved it three times. The Michigan Wolverines won last year’s title, but with major shakeups led by the departure of head coach Jim Harbaugh, they rank No. 10 in ESPN’s latest poll heading into the 2024 season.
