Collin Sexton could be ‘available’ for trade: 5 landing spots

SALT LAKE CITY (BVM) – The NBA offseason is officially underway and several players are expected to be on the move via trades and free agency in the coming weeks. One of those players could be Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton, as recently, HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto reported that there is a “belief from rival executives” that both Sexton and teammate Jordan Clarkson “could become available on the trade market.”

While Clarkson is also an intriguing potential trade asset, Sexton could be a relatively sought-after player if Utah is indeed open to dealing the six-year veteran.

Sexton entered the league in 2018 as the No. 8 overall draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard put up strong numbers early on in Cleveland, highlighted by a 2020-21 campaign where he averaged a career-high 24.3 points. A meniscus tear derailed the following season for Sexton, one that would ultimately be his last with the Cavs as the team dealt him to the Jazz as part of the Donovan Mitchell trade.

Sexton had a bit of an up-and-down season coming off the injury in 2022-23 but looked more like himself in year two in Salt Lake City this past season, averaging 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 48.7% from the field and 39.4% from 3-point range. The former Alabama standout also seemed to get stronger as the season progressed, posting 20 points or more in 13 of 15 games in March.

Sexton is under contract for the next two seasons and will make $18.4 million in 2024-25. While that number could make a potential deal more difficult for some teams with salary-cap issues, it remains likely that Sexton will have several suitors across the league as a talented offensive playmaker and shooter who is still just 25 years old. Here are five possible landing spots if the Jazz look to trade their starting guard.
